Overview

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Exchange Online Administrator to support a hybrid Microsoft Exchange environment, including on-premises Exchange Server and Exchange Online within Microsoft 365. The successful candidate will ensure reliable, secure, and compliant email services while supporting mail flow, migrations, hybrid connectivity, and end-user needs across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support hybrid Exchange infrastructure, including on-premises Exchange Server and Exchange Online.
  • Manage mailbox migrations, mail flow, and hybrid connectivity between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Configure and maintain transport rules, data loss prevention policies, retention policies, and email security controls.
  • Monitor Exchange performance, troubleshoot service issues, and resolve user email-related incidents and requests.
  • Implement and support anti-spam, anti-malware, and threat protection capabilities using Microsoft Defender for Office 365.
  • Manage user provisioning, distribution groups, shared mailboxes, mailbox permissions, and role-based access controls.
  • Maintain hybrid synchronization and directory services, including Azure AD Connect.
  • Support eDiscovery, legal holds, compliance investigations, and records retention requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and system architecture records.
  • Provide end-user support, guidance, and training related to email services and Microsoft 365 messaging features.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Technologies

  • Microsoft Exchange Online and Exchange Server in a hybrid environment.
  • PowerShell scripting for Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange administration.
  • Microsoft 365 Admin Center and Exchange Admin Center.
  • Microsoft Entra ID / Azure Active Directory and Azure AD Connect.
  • Exchange Online Protection and Microsoft Defender for Office 365.
  • DNS, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and mail flow routing concepts.

Required Qualifications

  • Four or more years of experience managing Microsoft Exchange environments.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting hybrid Exchange environments, including on-premises Exchange and Exchange Online.
  • Two or more years of experience using PowerShell for Exchange administration and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with mailbox migrations, hybrid deployments, and mail flow troubleshooting.
  • Experience implementing email security, compliance, retention, and governance controls.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate
  • Experience with 500+ user environments
  • ITIL or service management experience

Salary: $165,000 - $172,500.00
